Overview
I was partnered with 3 other students to produce a set of different posters for NAITSA. I was tasked with the Nugget, NAITS Campus newspaper. Our group called Studio Penta, also designed posters for the senate election, a website and made some stickers.
Approach
I wanted to replicate the feeling of sitting down in a coffee shop and reading the daily paper. Maybe seeing something exciting and dropping your coffee.
I started by doing a sketch phase and running that by the people at NAITSA, once they approved a preliminary sketch I got started on hunting for assets.
I found this nice wooden table background for free on unsplash, the newspaper is actually an old copy of the NUGGET from 2000, the coffee cup and paper are my own images. I took a picture of my finished coffee and took out any identifying marks to use in the image, same with the paper on the bottom (even though there isn't any marks on paper)
Originally I wanted to hand draw the typeface but we ended up finding a really nice font on envato elements which NAITSA is subscribed to, so we ended up using that instead, which worked out really well.
