Just A Dog.
Overview
I wanted to combine several different dogs into one cohesive piece. like the artworks you see of multiple things that make up something bigger.
Approach
This piece challenges the phrase “just a dog,” a dismissal I’ve heard too often. Using seven distinct dog images, I applied greyscale and threshold effects in Photoshop, reducing each to its most essential light and shadow. These fragments were then strategically combined into one singular form—a visual metaphor for individuality within uniformity.
Much like humans, dogs come in all shapes, temperaments, and stories. The phrase “just a dog” ignores this uniqueness. I ask the viewer to consider: if we wouldn’t say “just a human” without hesitation, why do we reduce other beings so easily?
