Joker 2019 Movie poster
Overview
I decided to choose The Joker (2019). Mainly because of the gritty nature that the film projects aligns with my personality.
I think the project came out exactly as I wanted it to. I played a lot with using blue and red, but the poster evoked a better sense of chaotic evil when using straight red and black. The orange comes from Joker's suit, adding more contrast to this piece.
Approach
This poster was completed in Adobe Photoshop and uses skills such as:
Colour theory and print production.
The final poster was printed on coated paper via a plotter at 37x48 inches and critiqued by my design professor and the entire design class, who thought I couldn't improve the project much.
I used an image from the move and edited it for the raw emotion that joaquin phoenix expresses in the film.I took a moment when the character himself took a shift from hiding his insanity to letting it loose, the moment when he gets arrested and is parraded in the cop car.
Applying threshold effects to draw out the harsh edges and make it even more emotional, i added the joker colours and the dark contrasting colours of the universe of which it takes place and it just fell into place together, it almost felt like it was meant to be that way.
