Overview
This jacket is a tribute to Lil Peep. The original Never Say Die jacket was created for him and later widely replicated and sold online. It’s most notably featured in the Benz Truck music video. While my version isn’t the original, I took the time and care to replicate it as closely as possible for my own personal use. This jacket will never be sold.
Approach
I began this project in 2020, aiming to recreate the Never Say Die jacket with the resources I had at the time. The base is a thrifted, Canadian-made leather jacket. I used thin layers of acrylic paint to minimize cracking, testing various acrylic mediums to improve adhesion. Unfortunately, most of the mediums I tried either altered the paint’s texture or made it look off once dried.
In the end, I stuck with regular acrylics. I used permanent marker to clean up small black details and Posca pens for the fine colored linework. Though it wasn’t perfect, this process taught me a lot, and I’m proud of how close I got to the original with what I had.
