MAKE ART. NOT DEATH.

Overview

This painting called: "MAKE ART NOT DEATH" was painted in 3 separate sittings over 11 months.

The original background was accidentally made when I spilled Dollar Store paint onto printer paper. This led to me cleaning it up and painting instead.

I decided to go crazy with the paper as it was already "ruined." This resulted in a big mess of random colours and spots of brown and grey, not appealing at all.

Approach

The skills used in this poster include:

Oil paint, Acrylic paint, Posca Pens, Compositional techniques, and Colour theory.

Once the piece sat on top of my shelf for about half a year, I stumbled across it one day and said: "Hey, that looks cool." I do not know what I saw, but I saw something and went with it.

After messing with various colours and taping new pieces of paper to create texture on the painting, I finally got a background that I enjoyed. Then, I added the details.

Faces to represent anyone. Dark silhouettes for collectivity. "kill HATE," "Make art not death," "Who told you you could tell me what to do?" and "love each other," some things are contradictory, but who isn't at some point in life. These are all things that I believe, to some extent, mashed into one art piece. Somehow, the painting/poster ended up looking good.
